University of Ottawa / Université d’Ottawa
Deus Scientiarum Dominus Est — God is the Master of Science — Dieu est le maître des sciences
I did not know that this is my university’s motto. Granted I didn’t do my undergrad here, but still, you’d think I would have looked at it by now. Not to bash religion, okay maybe that’s exactly what I want to do, but - personally I’d rather have Drake’s motto on the crest than “God” being the master of anything.
At least it’s a pretty badass coat of arms/crest?
Go GeeGees…?
It’s now late September and I’ve been in Ottawa for almost a month. After being unsure about the city in my first week, I can safely say that it’s been a great experience so far. The people I’ve met so far are amazing and it feels like we’ve all known each other far longer than just under a month. It might sound like an exaggeration, but with most of us being in a new city, the friendships we’ve made have been a huge part of becoming comfortable in a new setting.
The classes have been interesting thus far, but the work is really going to start piling up come October. With practicum beginning on Halloween, we all have a variety of assignments due, on top of preparing to start at our placement. My first placement is scheduled to be at home in Toronto, so it’s going to be difficult to not see everyone who’s staying in Ottawa. I think my biggest worry is that this year is going to fly by and it will feel as if no time has passed at all. Days turn into weeks and months and April is going to be here far too soon. That probably sounds very dramatic but it’s not meant to be. I’m doing my best to keep thinking day to day, just enjoying a new school, city, and friends. Oh and I guess I’m focused on getting all of my readings and assignments done. With two due this week it’ll be the first crunch time for me to get work done in a long time. Undergrad feels like a distant memory and I’m going to have get myself back into work mode as soon as possible. It can be done.
